Project Theme Stakeholders Partnering and Problem Solving
Target Audience Representatives of government departments, contractors, villagers and community leaders
Project Duration 1 Day

With reference to the common practice of a value management workshop, the workshop and follow-up work went through six crucial stages as follows:

  • Collect information
  • Identify common concerns and problems
  • Analyze the information and problems
  • Make suggestions to deal with different concerns and problems
  • Analyze and consolidate the suggestions

Follow-up the workshop and present report

Following the welcome address by the organizer, the facilitator started the workshop by explaining the proposed objectives and agenda of the workshop. ABC, the Contractor and the respective government department then made their own presentations to brief participants on the progress and issues of the project. The facilitator invited each of the participants to make comments or ask questions to clarify their understanding about the project. As a result a list of key concerns was developed.

After a coffee break and informal networking, the facilitator divided the participants into syndicate groups to discuss the key concerns and make suggestions how to deal with the concerns. After the idea generation exercise, the facilitator invited each group to present their ideas and recommendations of higher priorities. Using various problem solving and decision making techniques, a series of conclusions and recommendations was produced in a ranked order of importance.

To close the workshop, the facilitator invited the participants to sign a ‘Partnering Charter’ to commit themselves to working towards an atmosphere of understanding, justice and mutually trust so that the work could be completed successfully. The following specific achievements of the workshop were reported:

  • Gained a better understanding of the LPM Project.
  • Fostered an open and creative atmosphere and hence improved the quality of discussion, problem solving, decision making and crisis management.
  • Established agreed communication channels to manage problems and decisions at different stages of the Project more pro-actively.
  • Concrete suggestions were made to address different concerns.
  • Gained stronger commitment to work collaboratively through signing a Partnering Charter and establishing individual or team action ideas.
